I will heading to West Palm Beach this afternoon to spend Christmas with my sister, Jocelyn and her 15 year old yellow lab, Marley.

I don't mind flying. I always get a good nap on any flight which is strange because I am not a napper and usually a pretty light sleeper. Flight attendants have had to wake me up after everyone has got off the plane once or twice. As soon as the cabin doors close, I am usually out like a light. In order to do that though, I must have my favorite travel accessory. Mack's Ear Seals ear plugs. When traveling, I can get really irritated with all the activity (people) around me - little noises drive me batty. Even when I am not traveling, this is my ONE little "quirk." (comments from the peanut gallery are not necessary) I can usually remove myself from the situation but I can not when I am traveling. At the airport and on a plane, you are kind of stuck with the people around you. I can't stand when people crack their gum, crumple their potato chip bag, breathe heavy, chew/crunch on anything like a cow, do that little teeth whistle thing, jingle their change, drag their feet on the ground, play games on their phone/game device with the sound on, whine, cry, complain :-) The list goes on. I am really not THAT neurotic but ear plugs help me remain sane. Ha. I have tried all types and the foam just don't work. These babies block out all noise and don't hurt my ears. I really have gotten better as I have gotten older but even in races - especially the marathon, at the end when I am just not feeling that comfortable and I am kind of cranky, the swishing of someones jacket, the slapping of someones feet, hearing someones labored breathing can really irritate me. It's a good thing in that situation, because it pisses me off and makes me run faster - away from the annoying noise. Seriously - I am not that crazy. We all have quirks and this is a long running joke in my family. They lovingly try to see who can annoy me the most when we all get together. They are the best ;-)
I'm amazed that you can hear anything over the white noise of the engine. Noises can drive me crazy too :)

ReplyDeletei, too, am annoyed by all those things! the sound of feet slapping during a marathon drives me batty (especially if someone is wearing VFFs, which means they are extra slappy). i wear ear plugs every night to bed. i'm a terribly light sleeper and the sound of my husband breathing (isn't that terrible? how dare he breathe!) will keep me up!

ReplyDeleteWhen I showed horses, it was common to plug their ears - kept them from being distracted.
